Daily Question – 12

Today’s question comes partly from me and partly from Harish Narayanan, an ex-QFI regular and a card-carrying member of the Church Of Tarantino. His faith is so strong that he once set a full-length QFI quiz where almost every answer was ‘Kill Bill’ (one was ‘Kill Bill: Vol. 2’). He is now based in the United States, earning his daily bread from Microsoft, and has sent us this question from his iPhone.

Identify the paintings and the painters. And connect.

‘Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends’, the fourth album by Coldplay, is named after a painting by Frida Kahlo (Visual 1) and the cover artwork features the painting ‘Liberty Leading the People’ by Eugène Delacroix (Visual 2).

Cracked by 19 of you!

  5. Dear Uncle:

The first painting is “Viva la Vida” by Frida Kahlo, that aunty with a moustache.

The second painting is “Liberty leading the people” by Delacroix. Uncle, I can see her boobies in that!

The connect is the recent Coldplay album, which takes its name from Moustache Aunty’s painting but wisely decides to put Booby Aunty on the cover instead.

    Kind regards,
    Thomas Masun

  10. The first painting is Kahlo´s ´Viva la Vida´ censored with a strange black rectangle. The second is Delacroix uncensored and his awesome Liberty Leading the People with a healthy dose of exposed breast.

I kind of feel nice that I did not know the connection, but was informed by the well meaning internet that this is the manner in which Chris Martin now unleashes his intellectuality upon us (album title and cover art). So, keeping with the now ubiquitous sneering tone with which all Coldplay albums seem to demand being addressed in the media, I humbly submit my answer.
