On the 16th of March, the Quiz Foundation of India (QFI) awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to Mrs. Saranya Jayakumar. This recognition is a testament to her remarkable journey, unwavering passion, and unparalleled contributions to the quizzing community.
Right from her time at Queen Mary’s College and then at Presidency College studying literature, Saranya had been making her presence felt in the quizzing circuit. Across the 1970s and the 1980s, this passion continued to burn bright as she and her famous team, ‘Motley Crew‘ dominated the open quizzing scene in India. After returning to Chennai, she helped found the Quiz Foundation of India in 1987 and continued quizzing, now as a part of ‘Memory Bank‘ along with her son, Dr. Navin Jayakumar. Memory Banks ultimately won the national final at the All-India North Star Quiz, one of India’s largest quizzing events at the time, in 1992.
Saranya’s achievements in the quizzing arena are nothing short of extraordinary and she has left an indelible mark on the Indian quizzing scene. On behalf of the entire quizzing community, and especially the Chennai quizzing community, we extend our warmest congratulations to Mrs. Saranya Jayakumar, and we look forward to her continued contributions to the quizzing community.
